WHY WE LOVE RWANDA

Rwanda, also known as the 'Land of a Thousand Hills' due to its mountainous terrain, is a lush East African country and one of the smallest in the world. Kigali, the capital city paints a peaceful picture, with awe-inspiring rolling hills visible in much of the city. Rwanda has a perfect climate to thrill the vacationer, and its coffee, tea and fruits shops will refresh you any time of the day. The country empowers local women in tea farming.

The nation has been recreated after the 1994 genocide that saw the hideous massacre of close to a million people.The blood has been washed away,and a tough, resilient and beautiful citizens have emerged. Rwanda is one of the safest countries not just in Africa but in the world. It is now 20 years since the genocide destroyed the country and violent crime is now near nonexistent.

Women dress in vibrant colours, complementing the countryside greenery. At night, the sky transforms into a picturesque sight. A view from the top of the hills makes the city look as if there is an endless burst of stars suspended not only in the sky, but across the land as well.

Rwanda is known as one of the three countries in the whole world that houses the few remaining endangered mountain gorillas, about 900 mountain gorillas that are left in the world.

GOOD TO KNOW:

* The spirit of the people here is that of eagerness for a prosperous future and the Rwandans encourage their children to obtain academic or vocational achievements for the betterment of their lives.

* Rwanda’s parliament has more female members than any other parliament in the world. 56% of parliamentarians are women with Sweden being a distant second with 45%.

* Rwanda does not allow plastic bags. In fact if you land in   Rwanda with a plastic bag it will be confiscated.

* Flip-flop sandals are banned in Rwanda. They were banned in an effort to combat jiggers.

* Rwanda is one of the cleanest countries in Africa and maybe the world. Why? Rwanda has a community cleaning day on the last Saturday of the month where everyone contributes to cleaning up their neighborhood.{This also happens in Nigeria}
